Basic Information about the FMG Exam
FMGE (Foreign Medical Graduates Examination) is a licensure examination conducted by the National Board of Examinations (NBE) in India. This exam is necessary for Indian citizens or overseas citizens of India (OCI) who have obtained their medical degrees from foreign institutions to practice medicine in India.
Eligibility Criteria:
- An Indian citizen or OCI with medical degrees from foreign institutions.
- MBBS or equivalent degree from an institution outside India that is listed by the World Health Organization (WHO) or International Medical Education Directory (IMED), or
World Directory of Medical Schools
- Must provide proof of passing the final examination for the primary medical qualification by the deadline specified by NBE.
Exam Pattern
- Mode of Exam: Computer-based exam
- Frequency: Twice a year (June and December).
- Duration: 5 hours, Two parts: 2.5 hours each
- Total Marks: 300
- Number of Questions: 300 multiple-choice questions (MCQs)

- The exam is divided into two parts, each part containing 150 questions
- Each part is 2.5 hours long, with a scheduled break in between

Subjects Covered: The FMGE covers subjects from the MBA curriculum as per the Graduate Medical Education Regulations issued by the National Medical Commission. The subjects are divided into Pre-clinical, para-clinical, and Clinical.

Marking Scheme:
- Each correct answer is awarded one mark.
- There are no negative markings for incorrect answers.
Passing Criteria:
- A candidate must score at least 150 out of 300 marks (50%) to pass the exam.
Result:
- Results are usually declared within a few weeks after the exam.
- Candidates who pass the exam are eligible to apply for registration with the National Medical Commission or any State Medical Council.
